The women cricket team in Afghanistan has been dissolved quietly but the founder of women cricket team, Diana Barakzai, is hopeful that the team will again form one day. Afghan women cricket team was founded in 2010. But the threats from Taliban, fundamentalism and bad security situation caused to end the team quietly. Afghanistan has to form national women cricket team till 2015 till 2025 in order to become the full member of ICC. Chairman of Afghanistan Cricket Board, Naseemullah Danish, said that it is not possible to form women cricket team due to current situation of Afghanistan. Also, Taliban has said that women national team should not be formed as it is against the Islamic teachings and Afghan culture. In case of formation of women cricket team, they will not be responsible for any attack on the players. Taliban gave that threat through telephone. The critics say that one reason for demolish of women cricket team in Afghanistan is the absence of basic infrastructure but also men in this fundamentalist society are against the thought that their sisters or daughters should took part in any sports on public level. Due to this reason, no advancement could be made for this purpose despite spending large amount of money for the progress of women in Afghanistan. Founder of Afghan women cricket team, Diana Barakzai, resigned from cricket board in April. Barakzai said that women should not take part in any sports and Afghan cricket board is not in favor of women cricket. On the other hand, Tuba Singar is the new chairperson for the women department of Afghan cricket team who said that there are bomb blasts every day and week in Afghanistan. Therefore, people don’t want to send their women outside for sports in this security situation.
