The fastest world cup fifty is made by New Zealand captain and opener Brendon McCullum on Friday in Wellington while playing against England. McCullum scored this fifty in just 18 balls.
McCullum scored this fifty with the help of four sixes and seven fours. This fifty helped New Zealand to achieve the target of 123 in just 12 overs for the loss of 8 wickets.
After reaching 50 in just 189 balls, McCullum beat his own previous record of fastest world cup 50 in 20 balls which he scored against Canada in 2007 ICC world cup.
This 20 ball fifty by McCullum is also the third fastest half century in one day cricket. Apart from this, South Africa’s AB de Villiers and Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya are the two batsmen who scored the fifties in 16 and 17 balls respectively.
