ABS-CBN Corporation which is a Filipino media conglomerates launched the ABS-CBN television in Philippines in July 1953. This channel became known as Channel 2 which is the major part of Filipino commercial television network. Channel 2 was established to telecast as commercial television network. This channel earned 17.5 billion pesos which helps it to run its functions smoothly. This channel has been set up in Quezon and has many regional offices and news bureaus in more than 25 provincial areas of the country.
This channel has set up about 25 television stations which are functioning through Regional Network Group. This channel telecast its news and programs to throughout the world through its connection with The Filipino channel and it also functions on IPTV and internet using TFC Now as its brand name.
The channel was established with the view to broadcast commercials and news and other entertainment programs since its launching. This channel was also got supports of the largest and multinational companies of the world like Colgate-Palmolive, Caltex and Proctor and Gamble. This channel had to face various problems including cease of its broadcasting in the country during the martial law reign. This channel was bound to telecast programs which government like and no other such programs or news could be telecast from this channel as it was taken into the direct control of the government. This channel started its transmission again in 1986 after the reign of martial law. But this channel could not get its previous glory and audacity and it remained behind from other television channels being running in the country.
In 1992, AGB Nielsen Philippines was launched which established various other channels in the country. Due to its effective policy, TNS/KANTAR Philippines started its function for research. In the year 2008, the AGB Nielsen Philippines issued the detailed history of all popular programs and shows which run by all television channels being function in the country. In these shows and programs, 7 out of 10 programs associated with this channel. Some of its programs got so much popularity including Maria Mercedes, Miss Universe 1997, Rosalinda, Meteor Garden, Pacquiao vs Morales, The Battle and Pangako sa Yo. ABS-CBN tried its best to regain its previous glory in Mega Manila. It got its top position in the national rating as it was described by TNS/Kantar Media
