Karachi, Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board said that Azhar Ali was made the captain of the one day squad of Pakistan cricket team but his leadership qualities did not give them the confidence. After the retirement of captain Misbah ul Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed is the strong candidates for the captaincy of all three formats of cricket.
Chairman PCB further said that he appreciate the batting of Azhar Ali and he performed well in the team as player by his leaderships qualities are not up to the required standard. He lost the confidence of the board as captain. He also said that Pakistan one day squad got success by 3-0 in the one day series against West Indies and after that it was difficult for them to make any decision. Now he is looking at the one day series against Australia and the result of the series will decide the fate of the present captain of Pakistan cricket team.
The chairman PCB also said that Sarfaraz Ahmed is the captain of T20 squad and now he is also the candidates of the one day squad. He took the suggestion of the head coach of Pakistan cricket team, Mickey Arthur and he also suggested making him the captain of the one day team. He further added that the board will not compel other players on any decision and the senior players will be seen off with great respect and honor. He said that it was better for Pakistan to assign the captaincy to one person in all three formats and they got good result. Now it is possible that after the retirement of Misbah ul Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed will be assigned with the responsibilities of all three formats of cricket.
