ICC allows Amir to play Domestic Cricket

Mohammad Amir

Mohammad Amir has been given permission by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to restart his cricket in Pakistan at the domestic level.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shehryar Khan was present during a meeting of ICC after which this decision was announced by ICC.

According to a press release by ICC, Amir had been allowed to play domestic cricket immediately under the sponsorship of PCB.

Sir Ronnie Flanagan, chairman of ACSU, used his powers under article 6.8 of ICC Anti-Corruption Code after he was convinced that ACSU received full cooperation from Amir as he revealed his own part in the corruption, confessing his guilt, showing regret and fully cooperating with the investigation of the unit and by taking part in the education sessions of ACSU by recording his messages.

2nd September 2015 is the last date when 5 years’ ban on Amir will expire. In September 2010, Amir was banned along with the then Pakistani captain Salman Butt and his fellow fast bowler M Asif for deliberately taking part in the illegal activity of spot fixing.

The current permission of playing domestic cricket to Amir came according to the revised code and conduct for the players in November 2014 which added a provision in which the banned players can be allowed to play domestic cricket before even the end of their ban.

Before that, PCB Chairman Shehryar Khan told that Amir will be cautiously watched during first-class cricket and then he will be able to return to the international cricket.

Before that ban, famous Pakistani captain Imran Khan described Amir as the ‘hottest property’ of cricket.
