Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed Misbah-ul-Haq captain for test cricket, Shahid Afridi for T20 cricket and Azhar Ali for ODI matches while Sarfraz Ahmed will be vice captain for one day matches.
Chairman PCB said in Lahore during a press conference that Misbah-ul-Haq and Shahid Afridi played important role in national cricket and now both have retired from ODI cricket but Misbah will remain captain of test cricket while Shahid Afridi will lead T20 team of Pakistan. Apart from them, Younis Khan is also a much disciplined cricketer and he is very happy that he is not retiring.
Sheharyar Khan said that the team’s fitness in the mega event was not according to international standard but now they are making a new team and that’s why Azhar Ali has been made new captain of ODI team despite his absence in the world cup. He said Azhar Ali has proved on national level that he could be a good captain while Sarfraz Ahmed has proved that he can show his capabilities in difficult situations. That’s why he is appointed as vice captain of ODI and T20 cricket.
Chairman PCB further stated that the cricket has changed much in last 10 years due to which they have decided to make selection committee of such players who know modern cricket. Now Haroon ur Rasheed will be the new Chairman of selection committee while Kabir Khan and Saleem Jaffer will also be in the committee.
