Raidió Teilifís Éireann was formerly a radio station which aired news and other amusing programs in local and English language. The radio has been established in 1926 but when television was started functioning then after some time this channel also started its functioning on December 31, 1961. Initially this channel was funded by its license fee gathering from the public and through advertising. This channel was the combination of semi state company and public service broadcaster Ireland.

The management of RTE channel is appointed by the Ireland government. The executive board which is led by Director General looks after its all affairs.
This channel is normally performing two orchestras including the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. Both groups show their skills while performing in The Helix and National Concert Hall.
