T20 cricket is becoming money earning machine for ICC and now efforts for World event have started by International Cricket council. In the first stage, official broadcasters are contacted and after their approval the voting will be held in the annual conference. The project of dividing two groups of test cricket will be implemented through the additional $500 million.
According to details, the next ICC World T20 is scheduled to be held in 2020 in Australia. But now ICC wants to held such formats in 2018 and 2022 also. The broadcasters have only one danger that too many world T20 events can harm IPL. There is also danger of reduction in the importance of test cricket with emphasis on T20 cricket. Now ICC has its own view. It got earning of $250 million with this year’s T20 world cup in India. If two extra mega events could be played then $500 million extra will be achieved.
An opinion is to distribute this money to small countries so that they can improve their structure but there is another opinion in ICC that test cricket could be divided in two divisions. Top 7 teams will be separate from 5 other teams and they will play test matches among them. This additional income can also be used in the implementation of this opinion. If T20 event would held in 2018 then it will be played in September/ October. This space is empty due to end of Champion’s League and ICC wants to utilize this space. South Africa is a strong candidate for this world cup but its govt. has stopped the board from giving any bid of hosting a foreign tournament. The second strong candidate is UAE due to timing of the tournament.
