A deadlock has occurred between India and ICC over the venues of T20 World Cup 2016. ICC wants to organize the matches on 5 venues while the demand of BCCI is to conduct matches on 8 venues. It is expected that the Chenai, city of Chairman governing body Srinivasan, will also not be included in the world cup venues. The final decision will be taken in the annual meeting of ICC. According to details, India is the host of 2016 T20 world cup while will be held next year.

A meeting was held between officials of ICC and BCCI yesterday in Mumbai. On that occasion, the possible host venues of the world cup were discussed. ICC suggested limiting the event to five cities while the Indian Board demanded the matches to be played in 8 venues.

The matter of Chenai’s M A Chidambaram Stadium was also discussed during the meeting. ICC is not willing to play matches in this stadium because City Corporation has seized its 3 stands for the last three years and council doesn’t want to organize matches in front of the empty stands. Srinivasan is the Chairman of ICC and Tamil Nadu Cricket Association who is trying to include this stadium in the list of host stadiums of T20 world cup.

Interesting thing is that Chennai is not included in the list of 8 cities presented by BCCI to ICC. According to BCCI, total 35 matches will be played between 16 teams in the event scheduled to be held from 11th March 2016 to 3rd April 2016. In case of 5 stadiums, every venue will get 7 matches and it is difficult to fill the stadiums in so many matches but ICC thinks that the cost will increase by conducting the matches in 8 grounds. According to sources, BCCI has offered to spend the travel expenditure of the players but the final decision about this matter will be made in the end of current month in ICC meeting.
