Now Serena will face the Russian star Maria Sharapova in the final of Australian Open after she defeated Ekaterina Makarova in her semi final relatively easily by 6-3, 6-2 on Rod Laver Arena.

American star Williams has won the Australian Open on previous 5 occasions when she reached the final of the tournament and she was also able to reach the final again when she was able to win important points to defeat her tough opposition.
Williams told during an interview that the challenge from her opponent was very tough and she had to do extra physical and mental effort to overcome that challenge. Now she is really happy and emotional to reach the final as it was not an easy semi final by any means.

The health condition of both the women players before the semi final was not good. Keys was suffering from the same adductor injury which was the cause of her missing the Wimbledon last year after she won the semi final against Venice Williams, Serena’s sister.

Serena Williams was also suffering from cough as there was viral infection during the Australian Open. Keys remained famous with her clean-hitting throughout the whole tournament and she troubled Williams with the same type of hitting. In the first set, Williams was forced to defend the set and she was also behind Keys at one stage.

But Williams was later able to breakthrough and then she was able to close the first set very closely in her favor after 45 minutes.

In the second set, Williams was successful to put pressure on the 19 year old American player from the very beginning and reached at the lead of 5-1 score after two breaks of serve. Though Keys saved 7 match points in the 6th game and 1 match point in the 7th game but she could not stop Williams to reach the final of her 19th gram slam tournament which she will play against Maria Sharapova.

Williams praised the last effort of Keys to expand the match and said that she did a marvelous job at the time when there was almost no chance for her to win the match but she didn’t lose her heart and played hard game till the last moment.
