ICC Postponed Mens T20 World Cup 2020

The ICC has taken the careful evaluation of the current situation around the globe and by giving the priority to the health and well being of the players and people, ICC has postponed all qualifying events, which were going to take place before 30 June 2020. The decision has been made with the consultation of the members and with the relevant governments and the public health authority advice.

The head of ICC said that the governments of different countries have imposed ban on the movements of the people due to significant global health concerns and the events are now going to be postponed till the end of June with subject to further review. It is also said that the work on the contingency plans and options for men’s qualification will be continued to stage the remaining events this year. The increasing global health concerns, closures of borders of the countries and widespread travel restrictions, will be the reasons to postpone the different 2020 ICC T20 world cup qualifiers, which are given as follow:

• ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A – Asia – Host Kuwait; 16 – 21 April
• ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub- Regional Qualifier– Africa – Host South Africa; 27 April – 3 May
• ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A – Europe – Host Spain; 16 – 22 May
• ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier C – Europe – Host Belgium; 10 – 16 June
• ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier B – Asia – Host Malaysia; 26 June – 2 July
• ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier B – Europe- Host Finland; 24 – 30 June

In ODI and Test Cricket, Virat Kohli is the nearest competitor to the Babar, who is ranked at the top position. However, he is ranked at 9th in T20I rankings with 673 rating points. The next challenge of the Babar would be jump to top of the remaining two formats to replace Virat Kohli.

The 32-year-old got the feat on the 5th day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi on Sunday. While excellent batting in the last session of the day, the cricketer registered a seal at a place in history.

The match was draw; however, both Abid Ali and Babar Azam making their first centuries at home soil on their return to country after 10 years of test cricket.

Previously, Abid had scored the first ODI on 29 March 2019 in his debut match against Australia in the United Arab Emirates.

However, Beckville had to wait 5 years to make this record. He scored his first Test ton against Australia in 1968, but he played his first ODI against International Xi Women’s in 1973.

After his century at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday, the 25-year-old has now entered the top 10 Test batsmen in the ICC rankings list after the completion of Pakistan – Sri Lanka and Australia – New Zealand Test matches.

Now, Babar Azam is at 9^th postion in test match rankings, 3rd in ODI rankings and 1st in the T20I rankings. The only other player in all three lists is Virat Kohli who is leading both the Tests and ODIs lists. David Warner, Rohit Sharma, Joe Root, and Kane Williamson are currently included in

the top 10 batsmen in two different formats.

According to the sources, on the suggestions to pay two test matches in Pakistan on the request of PCB, Sri Lanka has given the positive gestures. After more discussion in this regard, this suggestion will be given final shape.

ICC is going to manage the ICC test championship and PCB has shown its desire to conduct two test matches with Sri Lanka in Lahore and Karachi. The PCB officials are trying to convince the Sri Lankan cricket board to send their team in Pakistan. After the hopeful response from Sri Lankan cricket board, the PCB officials are sure that the matters will be settled soon.

Sri Lankan team Agrees to Play Test Matches in Pakistan

The ICC officials are pleased with the security situation in Pakistan and the successful holding of the PSL matches in Pakistan and they have given the indications if the boards discuss with each other and they are agreed to play the matches, then ICC will have no objection over it.

On the other side, Pakistan Cricket Board is doing the negotiations with Bangladesh Cricket Board, in which the option is given to play against UAE in Pakistan. There are more chances that the matches with Bangladesh will be played in UAE. Pakistani national cricket team will tour to Australia to play two test matches of the ICC Test Championship. In the test championship, nine teams are going to play and the final test match will be played between two top teams in 2021.
