There are reports that Mumbai Cricket Association will demand the Australia vs India match of the upcoming series from Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) instead of hosting the proposed semi final match of the 2016 World T20.
The reason for this demand is to avoid the situation in case Pakistan qualifies for the semi final while Wankheded Stadium will host one of the semi finals and there is a possibility that Hindu extremist party Shiv Sena might produce disturbance during the match.
A meeting was held between officials of PCB and BCCI at Wankhede Stadium Mumbai which had to be called off due to the storming of the Shiv Sena workers in the stadium.
The decision was taken on Sunday during the managing committee decision of MCA. The BCCI has sent the proposed World T20 schedule to ICC for approval in which Mumbai and Delhi will host the two semi finals while the Australia & India match will be held in Chennai.
There is no Indian match in Chennai during the T20 world cup while an official for MCA told that there are chances that this request by MCA would be accepted.
He said that there is no problem in allotting Mumbai the match between India and Australia if it is requested by MCA as it will be the best situation for everyone including MCA.
Pakistan will not play any of its league matches of 2016 World T20 in Mumbai due to security reasons while Pakistan vs India league match will be played in Dharmsala Stadium.
An MCA official told that if Pakistan reaches the semi final then it will make the law & order situation worse. Due to this reason, BCCI president has said that he will talk to BCCI chairman and ask him to replace the world T20 semi final match with India- Australia match of the Australian tour of India.
But there is also another hurdle. PCB asked permission from Pakistani Govt. to play the series against India in December. Now there is a possibility that Pakistan Cricket Board might again ask permission from the government play or not in the 2016 World T20 in India and by looking at the protests of Shiv Sean against Pakistan team, it is a possibility that Pakistan team may feel difficult to tour India for the premier tournament next year.
