Sri Lanka defeats India in ICC Champions Trophy 2017

In the 8th match of ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Sri Lanka defeated India by 7 wickets. This group B match was played in London in which India scored 321 runs for 6 wickets in its allotted 50 overs due to a superb hundred by Shikhar Dhawan. In reply, Sri Lanka achieved the target of 322 runs for the loss of 3 wickets with one over to spare.

N Dickwella and D Gunathilaka started the innings for Sri Lanka but Dickwella departed earlier after scoring 7 runs. Gunathilaka and K Mendis scored 159 runs for the 2nd wicket partnership but both lost their wickets quickly after scoring 76 and 89 runs respectively. Captain A Mathews and K Perera scored 75 runs for the 4th wicket but Perera got injured at the score of 47. Mathews remained at the crease till end and scored 52 runs while Gunaratne also remained not out on 34 runs.

In the start, Sri Lanka decided to field first after winning the toss. S Dhawan and R Sharam scored 138 runs for the first wicket and Sri Lanka had to wait till the 25th over to get its first wicket when R Sharma lost his wicket to L Malinga. Indian captain Kohli got out without scoring a run while Yuvraj lost his wicket at 179 after scoring 7 runs.

On that occasion, S Dhawan and MS Dhoni scored 82 runs for the 4th wicket. Dhawan lost his wicket after scoring 125 runs while Dhoni scored 63 runs by hitting 2 sixes and 7 fours. H Pandya scored 9 runs while K Jadhav played aggressive knock of 25 runs in just 13 balls. L Malings took 2 wickets while Lakmal, Pradeep, Perera and Gunaratne tool 1 wicket each.

After Sri Lanka’s victory, next matches of Group B have become very important as they are now similar to quarter final matches as the winning teams will reach the semi final matches while the losers will be eliminated from the tournament.

Pakistan will play its next match of the ICC Champions Trophy against Sri Lanka while India will play against South Africa.
