Preparations are underway in India to legalize online betting. According to Indian media, a member of sports ministry told that they are in talk with government members for legislation regarding online betting on sports but the ministry will take minimum 2 years to prepare a draft for this purpose. Indian sports minister wants cooperation from British minister as betting is legal in UK. Indian sports secretary is present in England and the talk to legalize online betting is in his agenda.
According to the official, the ministry knows about social emotions regarding legalize online betting but it is beneficial for both sports and economy. Laws of betting are very effective in Britain and they want to understand and implement this system in India.
According to International Center for Sports Security in Doha, the worth of illegal betting in India is around $150 million which is mainly done through local bookmakers and non-registered offshore websites.
