Serena Williams reinforce her place atop the WTA world rankings following approaching the Australian Open on Saturday. The 33 years old Serena Williams craven Maria Sharapova in straight sets for 6th Grand Slam title in Melbourne and nineteenth in all.
Serena Williams is over 1,500 points clear of the Russian who in turn is well ahead of third placed Romanian Simona Halep. The older sister of Serena, Venus was one of the biggest movers of the week.
Since 2010 in Melbourne the former world number one attained the last eight for her first Grand Slam quarter-final. That enhanced her with seven ranks in the rankings up to just outside the top 10th at 11th.
The Melbourne’s semi finalist Madison Keys achieved 15 positions to break into the top twenty for the first time in her profession. In WTA to twenty world rankings are 1.Serena Williams from USA 9776, 2.Maria Sharapova from Russia, 8210 and so on.
